The Big, Bad Wolf

This is a restored version of a paper toy that was printed in France sometime between WWI and WWII. Today, the graphic representation of a mythical knife-wielding wolf might seem a bit extreme, but to French parents with fresh memories and constant reminders of the horrors of WWI in mind, this little toy must have seemed tame in comparison.

This particular version of the model did not meet my expectations when I started to construct it. First, the engineering was askew. The pigs and wolf did not move in relation to each other as described in the French text. So, I reengineered the toy so that they would.

Secondly, I found several color omissions in my restored version. Therefore, I did additional recoloring.

I am in the process of revising the whole toy complete with an English Translation and a version without the knife.

You can view an animation of this model at: Big, Bad Wolf.avi - YouTube

Nicely put together, Major. Cool video - the music is right on to conjure up images of the era from which the design comes.

Excellent. I don't remember if it was Toto's site or pillpat's, but there were a number of Red Riding Hood pieces, also

It is Pilpat's site. I have RRHood restored, too. I thought I had uploaded it, but obviously did not. It's ready to go. If you want it, PM me with your email address and I'll send it to you.

I missed that one! I downloaded it and will eventually restore it. I read somewhere that these prints were hand colored. This one sure is bereft of much color.

When you find it, let me know. I'll see if it's big enough to be restored.
