Paper Modelers at Army Heritage Days 2017
The annual Paper Modelers at Army Heritage Days will take place on Saturday and Sunday, 20-21 May 2017, at the U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center (USAHEC) in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, USA. Army Heritage Days
The theme this year is tanks and armored vehicles, with armored vehicles from many different eras driving on the USAHEC's tank course to demonstrate maneuvers and tactics. As always, there will demonstrations, lectures, and many reenactors and living historians portraying Soldiers and equipment of the U.S. Army in America’s wars throughout the centuries. Members of the Paper Modelers’ Forum will display models and demonstrate paper model techniques from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on those days. As of now, I anticipate Peter Ansoff, Thomas and Kathleen Clay, John Dell, John (DrLaser) and Rose Glessner, Roger Griffith, Linda Kemp, Anne and Jack McCombs, Kevin Stephens, Don Weeks (rockpaperscissors), and Lil and I plan to be there, weather and circumstances permitting. We will showcase models of tanks and other models relevant to the history of the U.S. Army, but will also display many other models to demonstrate the range and scope of paper models. Thanks to Dave Winfield, Scott Fyn and Fiddlers Green, John Bowman and Design Group Alpha, Cliff Button and Paper Tiger Armaments, Camille Morin (Cami), and Chris Gutzmer and the ECardmodels team for their support of the event, including permissions to reproduce models. If you live anywhere near Carlisle, Pennsylvania, USA, or if you happen to be traveling through during that time, we hope you will stop by to say hello, to enjoy the Army Heritage Days activities, and to get acquainted with the USAHEC and the U.S. Military History Institute -- a great place to do research for future models, to learn about your own Army ancestors and relatives, or to make use of the vast collection of documents. There will also be a sale of used military history books by the USAHEC Foundation. Don |

Some Initial Images
Here are a few images of the reenactors and visitors, a few images of the tracked vehicles that were on display and that rumbled through the USAHEC tank proving ground course; and the Solemn Banquet (John Dell and Roger Griffith had to head home and Kevin Stephens was unable to attend, but the rest of us had a good time).
1. Continental Army soldier. John Glessner, Rose Glessner, and John Dell. 2. Jack McCombs and visitors. Jack doesn't build paper models, but he is great at explaining the craft and encouraging people to take up the craft. 3. French and Indian War Pennsylvania soldier. Don Weeks and Kevin Stephens on the left. 4. John Dell with a young friend he met at our 1 April event. The young man had built a paper model house for John, which John brought back to display. 5. John and Rose with visitors. 6 and 7. Mark Ounan, WWI reenactor and owner of a meticulously restored Dodge staff car. 8. A soldier of Hood's Texas Division, American Civil War. 9. A couple of troopers from the All American 82nd Airborne Division. 10. Half of the tracked vehicles that participated in the tank obstacle course. 11 and 12. M4A3(76)W HVSS (Easy Eight) in action. 13. M-36 Tank Destroyer. 14. The Solemn Banquet. Left to right: Jack McCombs, Anne McCombs, Linda Kemp, Don Boose, Lil Boose, Don Weeks, Rose Glessner, and John Glessner. More images tomorrow. Don Last edited by Don Boose; 05-22-2017 at 03:38 PM. |
